Welcome to our website
We set up our shop in 2005 with a combination of funding from a rural renaissance grant and money donated ourselves to provide a convenience store for the local community who would otherwise have to drive 5 miles or so into Trowbridge or Melksham.
Housed within the old village school building and staffed by around 70 volunteers who are organised by a salaried Manager and a management committee of eight local residents, our shop has been responsible for the renewal of community spirit in the village.
Local customers and visitors are always greeted with a friendly welcome and many take the opportunity to linger for a hot drink and a chat in the coffee shop where we bake fresh pastries and croissants every day; filling the shop with their tempting aroma. In the warmer weather, we serve drinks and snacks at our tables outside where you can watch the world go by and pass the time of day with other customers.
Alongside all the well-known brands you would expect to find on the shelves, we stock a wide selection from local suppliers including meats, cheeses, eggs, milk, vegetables, cakes and biscuits meaning there is always something for everyone.
In addition to the delicious choice of food products on offer, we also supply newspapers to order, a good selection of beers and wines, a Post Office service each Wednesday morning, a twice-weekly dry cleaning collection and delivery, Internet access, a photocopier, a book club and a weekly order service for local meats.
Our selection of greetings cards is extensive and varied and we also stock a carefully chosen range of gift items that is regularly refreshed and extended for the key dates in the season. We also have a number of leaflets with scenic local walks available to help visitors discover the beautiful countryside around the village.
We have won various awards over the years, making it to the finals of the 2013 Community Village Award and we were delighted when Camilla Duchess of Cornwall paid us a visit in 2011.
